When a paver surface fails in Florida, the pavers are rarely the problem.
What is actually happening underneath
Florida's sandy subgrade drains fast but offers very little structural bearing. Under repeated loading the base redistributes, and the surface follows.
Common symptoms:
- Dipped tire tracks in a driveway
- Pavers that rock underfoot
- Joints opening up along edges
- Standing water in low spots after rain
What a correct base looks like

Compaction should happen in lifts, several thin passes rather than one deep layer.
Edge restraint is not optional
Without a restraint the outer row migrates outward and the whole field loosens from the perimeter inward. It is the least visible part of the job and one of the most common omissions in a cheap quote.
